The private label pet food process turns a brand concept into a commercially manufactured product. It normally includes product planning, formula selection, quotation, sample approval, packaging preparation, mass production, quality checks and delivery.
Pet Secret Biotechnology Co., Ltd. supports importers, distributors, retailers and pet businesses with more than 30 commercially used formulas, customized product development, private label packaging and export support.
1. What is the private label pet food process?
The private label pet food process normally follows seven stages: product planning, formula selection, quotation, sample confirmation, packaging approval, mass production and delivery.
The process is faster when the buyer provides a clear target market, product category, nutritional position, package size and expected order quantity. Review our Private Label Pet Food Manufacturing Guide for the complete project structure.
2. What information should a buyer provide first?
A buyer should provide the destination country, product type, target customer, preferred animal proteins, nutritional targets, package size, sales channel, expected quantity and target price range.
This information helps the manufacturer recommend a suitable formula and prepare a meaningful quotation. A request that only asks for “the price per ton” is insufficient because ingredients, nutrition, packaging and testing can substantially affect the final cost.
3. Should a new brand use an existing formula or develop a custom formula?
Most new brands should first evaluate an existing, commercially used formula. This option reduces development time, makes costs easier to estimate and lowers the risk of launching an untested product.
A custom formula is more suitable when the buyer has specific ingredients, nutritional targets or market positioning. Pet Secret Biotechnology offers more than 30 commercially used formulas and also supports customized development through its Customization and Wholesale service.
4. What is the MOQ for private label pet food?
Pet Secret Biotechnology’s standard MOQ is generally 5 metric tons per product or SKU. Different formulas, flavors, kibble specifications or package designs may be treated as separate SKUs.
Printed packaging can also have its own MOQ because bags are manufactured by a separate packaging supplier. Buyers should confirm both the food MOQ and packaging MOQ when calculating the first-order budget. See our Private Label Pet Food Cost and MOQ Guide.
5. Is a sample required before mass production?
A sample is recommended when the buyer needs to evaluate an existing formula or approve a customized product. Sample approval may cover kibble size, color, aroma, texture, moisture, nutritional results, palatability and packaging.
An existing sample is not automatically the final production specification. The approved formula, measurable requirements and acceptable tolerances should be recorded before mass production begins.
6. Who is responsible for packaging and label approval?
The manufacturer can support package dimensions, material selection, product information and artwork preparation. The brand owner is responsible for trademarks and should arrange final local review of claims, language, importer information and mandatory label statements.
Packaging should not be printed until the formula, net weight, barcode, date-code area and destination-market requirements are confirmed. Late artwork changes can delay production or make printed bags unusable.
7. What happens after the product and packaging are approved?
After approval, the manufacturer confirms raw materials, packaging availability, production scheduling, quality requirements and payment conditions. Mass production then follows the approved formula and specification.
Finished batches undergo the agreed quality checks before release. Export documents and delivery responsibilities are prepared according to the quotation and Incoterm. The complete sequence is explained in our OEM Pet Food Manufacturing Process.
